NYC is named concrete jungle. And after visiting it for the first time in years last week I realized why. That place is freakin HUGE! The buildings are so tall that you can hardly see the sun. Just like those trees that cover forests. The random people that you see from ALL over the world is amazing! You can't walk down a street without hearing 5 different languages. It's amazingly beautiful at night until it gets so cold that you want to die! Luckily, it won't be cold forever! (speaking of which the kids have had four snow days and a monday holiday since I have been here! which means they have had more days off of school then they have in school this semester! its CRAZY!!!)

a small world
When I first moved away from home and I met someone who I had a mutual friend with at BYU, I would be so shocked! I was a whole state away, but still somehow we knew the same people all the way in Arizona. Now that I moved to NYC I cannot believe how small the world actually is. I have met so many people out here that know people that I know to from California, Arizona, and Utah. Its CRAZY!
a few of my small world experiences include
1. The girl that nannied here before me is from cedar and so is one of my very best friends. They know each other and their families! small world
2. I met a girl in my new ward who is from my home stake. I knew her younger brother and our dad's serve on the high counsel together. small world
3. I met another girl in my ward who went to the singles ward from my stake back home in mesa. We know ALL the same people. small world
4. I met a girl at FHE who looked EXACTLY like a girl from one of my EFY groups years ago. We were good friends and talk sometimes and it freaked me out that they looked so much alike! They could be twins! So I asked her if she knew the girl and come to find out she is her older sister!!! small world
5. My new gym buddy is from st george. come to find out she knows some people there that I worked at
Aspen Grove with!
6. one of the girls that I was sitting next to in relief society last week told me she grew up in provo. Come to find out she knows one of the guys I used to hang out with a lot at byu! Small world
7. I met another girl at institute from utah and come to find out she knew a guy from my freshman ward.

culture shock
This weekend I went and hung out with some of the other lovely nannies from the area. We went down to Port Chester to do a little shopping, dinner, and a movie. We were having the time of our lives until we got out of our movie at 1 am and went to find our car and found that my friend (who I drove with) her window was completely shattered!!! We called the police department to file a report and had to wait for them to come take a look. We stood in a creepy parking garage for what seemed like FOREVER until the cops finally showed up. They filled a report and cleaned up the glass. I'm pretty sure they were the nicest cops ever! They even followed us home to make sure we got there without any problems. The worst part was driving back 15 miles with no window in the 10 degree weather! BRRRR!!! Luckily, the only thing that was stolen was a GPS. Thank goodness :) Thank you oh so much New York for my culture shock.

harrison, new york
I have officially been here eight whole days!! I can't believe it! It seems like I have been here much longer! I'm loving it here the kids are super cute and very well behaved which I am so very very very grateful for! The city is beyond beautiful, and my new singles ward is amazing! Some super important people are even in my stake and meet right before my ward! ie glen beck, the founders of jet blue, and some sports coach that I can't remember. Needless to say the building we meet in is beyond gorgeous! Flat screen tv's and huge!!! It's snowed quite a bit but luckily the car I drive out here has four wheel drive and drives in the snow like a champ! I haven't even slid once! Starting a new job has been interesting and trying to get around without getting lost has been my biggest challenge. A ton of streets here don't have posts telling you the street names, there are tons of one way streets, and no streets run in a straight line. It makes me miss the grid system in Utah desperatly! On monday I had to pick up the youngest from school so I put the address in my GPS (my new best friend) and it took me to who knows where! I was beyond lost and couldn't get ahold of either of the parents because they were in meetings so in a panic and as a last resort called the old nanny in a panic hoping she could help me! luckily she knew exactly where I was and helped me get to his school. I was 20 minutes late (ouch) and made a 4 minutes drive into a 40 minute excursion. I think I finally have the hang of it now though. I think... Anyways I went exploring Harrison today. Its a super cute little town
Its great! Also best. day. ever. I was walking down the street and saw the most beautiful sight. A LIBRARY! I was so happy :)

mesa
I walked outside without shoes tonight, and didn't have to worry about frost bite. Oh Mesa, I have missed you :) It's been consistently in the 70's everyday here, and there have been avalanche warnings all week at Aspen Grove. love love
