I have been planning on finally declaring that I wanted to be a food science major for a really long time (about a year) but I just kept putting it off. I mean who could ever believe that I could get into the program. Every time I walked past the life science office I was reminded that I hadn't gone in there and make an appointment with the academic counselor so that I could finally get the information to apply to the program. One day last week I was feeling particularly bold (probably due to the fact that the weather was finally broke into the 40's and I almost wore flip flops... almost) and I walked in and made an appointment, but of course they were completely full until the next week on Friday! I think they were trying to torture me, and it was working! So Friday FINALLY rolled around and I walked into my appointment. (I felt like I was at the dentist of doctors office two places of which i detest) After what seemed like an eternity I finally got called into the counselors office. I sat in silence as the counselor looked through my grades and other academic stuff (the whole time all I could think was breathe in, breathe out, don't panic, breathe in, breathe out...) Finally she told me that I had been officially accepted into the program!! Just like that! I was finally in the program! no messy forms, no horribly long interviews that I had to stress about I am in the program!! I even got a free pen that says the BYU College of Life Sciences on it! Now thats what i call a good day!!!!!
p.s. Food Science doesn't equal cooking
Every time i tell someone that I am a Food science major (because I am one now :) )I get one of two reactions the first "oh you want to be a dietitian" nope if i wanted to be a dietitian I would get a degree in dietetics. And the second response "oh you want to be a chef" I'm pretty sure that if I wanted to be a chef i would go to culinary school... I don't want to be either I just want to be a Food Scientist!
